Our History

The Denton County Bar Association was organized in 1890. Throughout its history, the Denton County Bar Association has had members who have been leaders in the community, working in their profession to promote justice and in their personal time contributing countless hours to community service and religious organizations within Denton County. Members of the Denton County Bar Association have served in the State Legislature, State Senate, Justices on Appellate Courts and on the State’s highest criminal court, the Court of Criminal Procedure. Members of the Denton County Bar Association have also served in the armed services of the United States in every war in which the United States has been involved since the creation of our bar association, and some have been decorated as war heroes for distinguished service to their country. A past president of the Denton County Bar Association once said, "Whenever something good is happening in Denton County, you will find a lawyer."

Today

The Denton County Bar Association is currently comprised of approximately 230 lawyers who meet the criteria of being a member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and have paid their annual local dues. 73 of its members hold 95 Board Certifications in a field of specialization, one of the highest per capita proportions of Board Certifications of any county bar association in the State of Texas. The Denton County Bar Association also has a Family Law Section of approximately seventy members, a Real Estate, Probate and Trust Section of approximately thirty members, a Denton County Trial Lawyers Association, and not directly a section of the Denton County Bar Association but made up of many members of the Denton County Bar Association are the Collaborative Family Lawyers of Denton County, the Greater Denton County Young Lawyers Association, and the Denton County Criminal Defense Lawyers.
